The motive of SLA(Second Language Acquisition)is to promote the ability for the language learners of learning and mastering the second language,and is thus a vitally important theory in SLA field.With the development of the Chinese language teaching across the world,surveys and researches has also seen a great increase,which are about the motive of the Chinese language learned as the second language.Chosen by Hanban in 2018 as a Chinese teacher volunteer in Confucius Institute of University of Pernambuco,Brazil,the Author was engaged in Chinese teaching and Chinese cultural promotion for an academic year.During this time,the Author found the strong willingness the students,all from the northeastern part of Brazil,had to learn Chinese.Accordingly,in order to study the motives of those learners,the Author conducted the questionnaire survey on Chinese language learners from Confucius Institute of University of Pernambuco,Brazil,and thus analyzed their learning motives and the factors influencing those motives.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the overall situation of learning motivation of Chinese learners in northeastern Brazil,the differences between different types of learning motivations,and the relationship between various factors and learning motivation.The respondents were Chinese learners at the Confucius Institute at the University of Pernambuco.The main research methods in this paper are literature review method,questionnaire survey method,interview method and data analysis method.On the whole,the fusion motivation and tool-based motivation of Chinese learners in northeastern Brazil are strong,indicating that Chinese learners in northeastern Brazil are very interested in Chinese culture and are eager to integrate into the Chinese community and become one of them.The motivation of Chinese learners in northeastern Brazil is related to the learner's gender,age,length of study and learning environment,as well as the cultural activities of the Confucius Institute.According to the conclusions of this paper,reasonable suggestions for Chinese teaching are proposed to improve students' learning motivation.Finally,it discusses the significance of Chinese teaching for the cooperation and exchange between Northeast Brazil and China.
