At present,Chinese language teaching is gradually developing in the central and eastern parts of Indonesia.As the largest national university in Eastern Indonesia,Hasanuddin University cooperates with Nanchang University to build Confucius Institute in Makassar City.The Confucius Institute of Hasanuddin University keeps expanding and has opened many branches.The number of students increases substantially these past few years.A Chinese Language and Cultural Activity Center has also been established in the University library,and various Chinese books and a multi-function room are also provided.However,several problems took place during the development of Confusius Institute.These problems are caused by many factors,and the problems are different every year.Before further study,the author introduces in detail the development history and current situation of Confucius Institute of Hasannudin University in the first chapter of this paper.From Chapter 2 to Chapter 5 detailed research and analysis shall be explained.The author researched about the Chinese language teaching in Confucius Institute from the aspects of teachers,students,curriculum setting and selection of teaching materials.Through classroom observation,the author studies teachers' teaching methods,students' learning attitude,the situation of curriculum setting and selection of teaching materials.In order to better understand the situation of Chinese language teaching in Confucius Institute and whether the students are satisfied with the teachers' teaching methods,the author also conducts a questionnaire survey and analysis on the students.This paper concludes that the existing problems in the development of Chinese language teaching in Confucius Institute of Hasanuddin University include: teachers' ability to teach is lacking,students are not satisfied with the teaching methods,curriculum conten does not arouse students' interest,and the content of textbooks does not suit the situation of Indonesian Students.Various solutions can be considered to solve these problems,such as strengthening teacher training,teachers should choose subjects that students like and show the course content in an interesting way,and reasonable selection of teaching materials.
