As the basic unit of language,vocabulary is one of the three major elements of language.The vocabulary size determines whether the speaker has the ability to speak one language fluently.Vocabulary is the main tool for people to express their thoughts,exchange information,and communicate,and it is also the main way of writing.Therefore,to test the learner's level of linguistic knowledge and mastery,vocabulary test is required.Foreign studies on vocabulary testing and vocabulary size have become more mature,while domestic vocabulary testing research on Chinese as a second language is less,and its validity analysis is also rare.This study selected the vocabulary recognition question and the pinyin question as the test types.According to the lexical test dimension distinction method,both of the two test methods have separate,specific,context-independent features,and do not need to browse through large texts when doing the questions.This paper aims to use the criterion association theory to compare the topic validity of the two types of questions.Strive to provide a new way of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,and provide reference for classroom teaching methods and skills,which can bring implications to future teaching.In this research,100 middle-level foreign students were tested.The test papers were vocabulary recognition,pinyin and matching questions.The matching question form is simple and can effectively measure the students' mastery of the word definition.Thus,this study uses it as a reference standard for measuring the validity of the test,and correlates with other survey results to determine the validity of the criterion.Finally,through the analysis of the results of the questionnaire,the overall attitude and suggestions of the international students on the two types of test methods are obtained.The test results show that both the pinyin question and the vocabulary recognition question are extremely effective,but the test results are significantly different,the vocabulary concentrates mainly on the four-level vocabulary.When thecontent of the test is consistent,the difficulty of the pinyin question is greater than vocabulary recognition question,and the degree of discrimination is better.The validity index shows that the co-time validity of the Pinyin questions is higher.It is obviously easier for the students to overestimate the vocabulary ability in the reading vocabulary list.The questionnaire analysis shows that the surface validity of the pinyin questions is better,and the students are more likely to accept such question type.Through the comparison of data and subdivision analysis,it is considered that the pinyin question is a feasible vocabulary test type that can replace vocabulary recognition question.
