Climax Layout And Analysis Of Difficulties In Actual Playing Of Medtner's Sonata Tragica

As an active composer during the late 19 th century to the early 20 th century,most of Nikolay Karlovich Medtner's works are focused on piano,in which Sonata Tragica is elected from the last piece of Forgotten Melodies.This dissertation analyzes and illustrates the climax layout and difficulties during the actual playing of the Sonata Tragica through two chapters.Chapter one discusses the climax layout and the overall layers of Sonata Tragica through two sections.Section one--Four Zigzag Ascending Climaxes--spots out the four climaxes in the work with the analysis of structure and every musical factors and analyzes the advancing process of climaxes in terms of musical factors.Section two--Four Fluctuations Leading to the Climaxes--is based on section one,which illustrates the process of advancing the climaxes in the actual playing by merging the analysis of four climaxes with playing and also includes mental preparations and technical preparations.Chapter two discusses the technical solutions of key touching in terms of the climax through two sections,it discusses the key touching during the playing which includes different ways of key touching in three themes of the exposition.It not only illustrates different solutions of key touching in different parts but also analyzes different key touching in same technical difficulties through the layout of climaxes.Chapter three discusses the solutions of acoustics during the performance,it consists of two sections which explores how to deal with the acoustics in the Sonata Tragica and it also includes handling of multiple layers and the use of pedals.This dissertation analyzes the layout of climaxes and difficulties during the performance in Sonata Tragica,which is along with the hope of attracting more attentions to this Russian composer's works and hopefully be able to provide help for playing and teaching of Sonata Tragica.
