A Study On Luan Image In The Tang Poetry

Luan,a genus of phoenix,is an supernatural bird in ancient Chinese mythology.The ancients endowed it with many miraculous natures: colorful features,skilling in sing and dance,moral of auspiciousness and peace,etc.Since its birth,the Luan image appeared constantly in the poetry,and then entered a new development era in Tang dynasty.The Luan image in the Tang poetry is not only the direct reflection of cultural heritage,social image,earthling emotion,national psychology and religious belief in literature,but also the important part of the bird image in the Tang poetry.The thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is the basis which intends to trace the source of the Luan’s morphology.On the one hand,this part elaborates on the biological attributes of Luan from four aspects,namely race,morphology,habit and biological prototype.On the other hand,from prehistoric age to Tang dynasty,the part utilizes the Quadruple Evidence approach to summarize the cultural evolution process of Luan’s falling from shrines to civilians.The second chapter focuses on the form of the Luan image in the Tang poetry with the view of "external nature".This part first analyzes the prototypical meaning of Luan in ‘Mountains-Seas book’.It then generalizes the writing features of the Luan image in the Tang dynasty from the two aspects: poet creation and poetry category.Finally,from the perspectives of "diachrony" and "synchronicity",this part analyzes the diversity of the writing fettle of Luan Image between the Tang dynasty and the pre-Tang dynasty,as well as the writing characteristics of secularization,combination,disparity,contrast,beautification,loneliness and openness in Luan Image.This third chapter turns to explore the special implication of Luan in the Tang poetry with the view of "inherent nature".The vicissitudes in the marriage and the love,the desire to seek refuge from the world in Taoism and the ambition to gain achievements in the field of political officialdom are all presented to the Luan image with a compound form,giving it a richly and uniquely artistic flavor.However,on the whole,the most strong and most charismatic Luan image in tang poetry are the Taoist temperament and the "Solitary Luan Touches Mirror" allusion which writes tragically in the marriage and the love.Appendix briefly expounds the similarities and differences between the Luan image and the Phoenix image and then explains the reason that the Luan image arouses the extensive writing of literati(the bosom friend plot)form the perspective of the tale of "Solitary Luan Touches Mirror".
