| Based on the background of the French history in the nineteenth century and on the basis of tragic aesthetics,this paper interprets the tragedy in French paintings of the nineteenth century,and analyzes the tragic factors of pictures and the deep ethical and substantive characteristics implied by these factors in order to exploit the essence behind the tragedy,including tragic thinking on issues such as human beings,life,human nature,society,and ethics.By analyzing the tragedy and sublime relected in these artworks,expounding the humanistic consciousness and social concern under the tragic lofty spirit,and reconstructing the importance of the tragedy understanding in the painting,it also discusses the lack of thinking about the ultimate problem in the prevailing environment of popular culture,consumer art,and image,so as to emphasize the significance of tragic consciousness and tragic spirit to artists and the development of contemporary art.Thus,the expression of contemporary art moves toward the avant-garde spirit with depth of thought.This paper discusses the tragic works of French paintings in the 19 th century by five chapters: the first chapter,the introduction,mainly expounds the theoretical basis,purpose and significance of the topic selection,as well as the current situation of domestic and foreign research and innovation.The second chapter discusses the origin and development of tragedy,the essence of tragedy and its expression in forms of aesthetics.The third chapter takes the history of France in the nineteenth century as the background,expounds the social tragedy under the turbulent times and political chaos,and discusses the transformation of aesthetic consciousness under the social transformation,which brings the original factors for the tragedy in paintings.The fourth chapter is the focus of this paper.Based on Hegel’s theory on ethical power conflict,the concrete cases prove the tragic characteristics of the inherent ethicalentity in his works.Secondly,based on the conflict theory of tragedy,this paper discusses and exemplifies the tragedy of character,behavior and fate,and also elaborates humanity,morality and life under the tragedy of destiny.Finally,it argues the contradiction and conflict between people and society in the current French era,and expounds the "present nature" and the social tragedy under Orientalism.It is the tragic consciousness and spirit of the artist that reconstruct the importance of the understanding of tragedy in the painting,and explain the artist’s rational thinking and emotional experience of tragedy.The fifth chapter discusses the significance of the tragedy in French paintings of the nineteenth century to contemporary art,and highlights the importance of humanistic consciousness and social care in the spirit of tragedy to contemporary art.Via discussing the problems existing in art under the prevailing environment of popular culture,consumer art,and image era,and thus proposing the significance of tragic consciousness and tragic spirit to artists and the development of contemporary art,which emphasize the relationship between art and society and between the times and people,artists maintain a keen spirit of reflection and criticism,their own artistic cultivation,and explore potential tragic consciousness and tragic spirit,to sublime the depth and width of artistic thought from humanistic concern. |
