| As China?s activities in foreign exchanges increase,external publicity translation,an important way of spreading Chinese culture,has gradually developed.However,as a crucial part of external publicity translation,the translation in local external publicity materials has translation mistakes,such as mistranslation and translation pretermission.In order to better present construction and development of cities in China and spread Chinese local culture to foreigners,the translation in local external publicity materials sho uld be valued,and its quality needs to be improved.This report based on the translation of Impression of Shifang takes Andrew Chesterman?s five models of translation ethics: representation ethics,ethics of service,ethics of communication,norm-based ethics and ethics of commitment as the guiding theory.The author analyzes the translation from the lexical and syntactic level to discuss two questions.The first one is how the five models of translation ethics guide the translator;the second one is what translation strategies and methods are applied to follow the five models.Case analysis shows that the translation of different contents in this text should abide by different models.Firstly,when translating the contents with political features,the translator follows ethics of representation to faithfully reproduce the source text,the source style,and the source author?s intention.Secondly,when translating the cultural contents,the translator mainly follows ethics of service and ethics of communication,achieving cultural exchanges.Thirdly,as for the wrong information in the source text,the translator follows ethics of commitment to correct it,improving the accuracy of the translation.In addition,the translator flexibly adopts literal translation,free translation,domestication,and foreignization strategy,and meantime,amplification,omission,transliteration,and annotation methods are used in this translation to follow the five translation ethics models.Through this translation practice,the author has a clearer understanding of Chesterman?s five models of translation ethics applied to translation in local external publicity materials.The author expects that this translation practice can help publicize her hometown.The author also hopes that this report will provide a reference for other translators engaged in the same translation.It is hoped that the report will provide reference materials for the study of five models of translation ethics and translation in local external publicity. |
