Consecutive interpreting, which is widely used in different occasions, has the distinctive feature of handling a huge amount of information within a short period of time.In the course of interpreting, interpreters may encounter various problems. For example,in a Chinese-English interpreting task, one is apt to encounter such problems as: redundant information, lack of subjects, too many meaningless words and lack of logical connectors. If the interpreter cannot solve those problems,it is impossible for one to fulfill the interpreting task.In addition, some speakers may not give their interpreters a speech draft for reference before the conference. For some reason, speakers may even give impromptu speeches, which constitute a massive challenge to interpreters. Therefore,if interpreters want to ensure an accurate and smooth interpretation, they should fully understand the features of consecutive interpreting, problems that may arise in interpreting of impromptu speeches and corresponding solutions. As a major in interpreting, the author has studied the three principles of skopos theory: skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.According to the three principles, the author has figured out some solutions to common problems of consecutive interpreting through interpreting practices: 1)if the subject is missing or the logical connection is not clear in the source text, the interpreter can add the subject or restore the logical connection in the target language by using connectors;2)when there is a large amount of redundant information in the source text, the interpreter can choose not to interpret the redundant part;3)when there is untranslatable information in the source text, the interpreter can state the speaker's ideas and explain the source text in his own words. In the thesis, the author lists the problems she encountered in the Chinese-English interpreting task and shares solutions to those problems. The author also provides some suggestions for learners of interpreting and new interpreters. The author believes that readers will benefit a lot after reading the thesis.
