After the May Fourth Movement(1919),the Chinese shutterbugs which were mainly composed by the urban intellectual class began to use cameras as pens to record the landscape,based on the acceptance of the new culture movement and the technical achievements of western photography.They organized photography group to conduct photography activities together,such as the study of photography theory,the exploration of photography technology,the holding of photography exhibition.Their art photography initiated the beginning of Chinese photography art and then the Chinese photography art entered the first glorious period of the history.However,the boom time of Chinese photography was ended gradually by the total Anti-Japanese War after the year of 1937.This thesis includes the following five chapters.The first chapter mainly describes the origin of art photography.It is written from the history of western painting photography happened in the second half of the 19 th century,and then expounds the process of assimilation,development and localization of photography,combining the Chinese characteristics and cultural background from the year of 1919 to 1937.Art photography does not equal to painting photography,thus this chapter also makes clear the definition,connotation and extension of art photography,as well as its aesthetic value and artistic feelings.The second chapter introduces the cultural psychology,photography esthetics,cultural vision of national aesthetics,photography concept of painting,etc.under the eastern horizon,from the starting point of different viewpoints and attitudes of intellectuals in the literary and art circles towards art photography.It aims to explore the Chinese flavor of art photography,from the case analysis of different scholars' viewpoints.The third chapter compares the relationship between art photography and traditional painting,including what is the impact of art photography on traditional painting;how does art photography incorporate traditional painting;what is the essential difference between art photography and traditional painting;whether the birth of art photography means that traditional painting has no value of existence any more.The forth chapter excavates art photography from the perspective of photography aesthetics,from the following three aspects of photographic image,photographic space-time and photographic aesthetics,which provides aesthetic theory support for the discussion of art photography.The fifth chapter discusses the flourishing age and world influence of art photography from the perspective of communication of art photography,which combines with the reports of relevant photographic journals,the activities of photographic societies and the development of photography exhibitions at that time.Finally,the author summarizes the positive influence of art photography and make a crisis analysis of its disadvantages.On this basis,the author thinks about the significance of art photography to the contemporary era.
