This thesis aims to investigate MTI students' perceptions on diplomatic interpreting competence and how the perceptions varied among three groups of MTI students at China Foreign Affairs University(CFAU).It also strives to figure out students' evaluation on the MTI program. In particular,to what extent the MTI curriculum design at CFAU has helped them attain relevant competence. Before designing the questionnaire,an interview was conducted with Ambassador Ren Xiaoping,an expert diplomatic translator and interpreter,to get an overall picture of diplomatic interpreting competence. The questionnaire, designed based on literature reviews and the interview, hopes to see students' perceptions on diplomatic interpreting competence and their evaluation on MTI program. The author found that perceptions on diplomatic interpreting competence between Ambassador Ren and MTI students were different. In addition, students' perceptions remained almost the same regardless of their years of admission. In addition, students basically agreed that courses at CFAU had indeed improved their diplomatic interpreting competence.Based on the research results, the author put forward suggestions to CFAU.
