With the increasing use of smartphones and other digital media technologies in the daily lives of young people, the influence of the use of media tools on people's cognitive functions has attracted more and more attention from researchers.Due to the popularity of media tools and the fact that current media tools can support multiple applications simultaneously,multi-tasking has increased in the use of media.Previous studies have shown that compared with the older generation, contemporary young people have grown up under the influence of modern media technology.According to statistics, more than 90% of young people are accustomed to handling two or more media multitasking at the same time. Therefore, the cognitive impact brought by the media multitasking to the individual is also more worthy of attention. In the past, research on media multi-task at home and abroad mostly examined social functions, academic achievements and mental health,or studied and discussed a specific cognitive function, and comprehensively explored the impact of media multi-task on cognitive function.less.The university stage is a golden period in which individual learning professional skills cultivate world outlook values. The cognitive status of college students has a significant influence on their study and life learning.Cognitive failure is an individual's cognition-based factor.Individuals make mistakes in completing simple tasks that are competent in daily life. The measurement of cognitive failure focuses on the individual's self-evaluation of cognitive status in daily life.In the past, the impact of media multi-task on cognitive status was considered from the specific cognitive experiment task scores. The examination of individual cognitive ability should not only examine the individual's performance on specific cognitive tasks, but also the individual's own self.Evaluation of cognitive status in daily life.In view of the lack of previous research, this study uses a combination of self-reporting methods and specific experimental tasks to comprehensively and deeply examine the impact of media multitasking on college students' cognitive status. In the first study,800 college students from colleges and universities in Guizhou Province were selected as research objects.Based on the theory of cognitive restriction theory and ecosystem theory, the relationship between media multitasking and cognitive failure was discussed in a self-reported way.Study 2 explores the impact of media multitasking on individual cognitive functions in specific cognitive experiments.Based on the research one questionnaire, the second study screened the qualified high-media multi-tasking and low-media multi-task participants, respectively, with AX-CPT task, classic Flanker task,low-associated prospective memory task, free recall task,Stop signal tasks and Stroop tasks examine the effects of media multitasking on individual persistent attention, selective attention, prospective memory, retrospective memory, and response inhibition and interference suppression. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)On average, college students have more than 3-4 media multitasking.(2)Media multi-task index has a significant positive correlation with cognitive failure and each dimension.(3)Attention,the experimental results show that media multitasking has impaired the attention ability of college students, among which the damage to continuous attention is obvious, and the damage to selective attention is not obvious.(4)In terms of memory, the experimental results show that media multitasking has impaired the memory ability of college students, which has damage to retrospective memory and prospective memory.(5)In terms of inhibition ability, the experimental results show that the media multi-task has damage to the inhibition ability of college students, and the damage to the interference inhibition ability is obvious, and the damage to the reaction inhibition is not obvious.
