The paper is composed of three parts: source text, target text, and the translation report on this translation practice.Sustainable Food Systems: The Role of the City aims to elaborate the current situation of food security from the aspect of science technology and social formation, thereby appealing to the public to change their way of thinking and developing urban planning and sustainable food systems. From chapter one to five, the author analyzes the root causes of the current food systems stepping into an impasse and introduces relevant theories and key concepts in the field of food systems, which is necessary for readers to form a correct cognition about sustainable food systems. Therefore the translator selects these chapters as the source text for the translation task. The source text mainly involves the basic theoretical knowledge of sustainable food systems, which is categorized as an informative text.Newmark puts forward the theory of semantic translation and communicative translation based on the function of text and points out that the translation of informative text should be carried out under the guidance of communicative translation theory. It requires the translator to follow the primary principle of authenticity to improve the readability of the translation.Given the applicability of communicative translation theory to the source text, the translator chooses this theory as the guideline for this translation practice. In the translation report, the translator describes the translation task, introduces Newmark's translation theory, and summarizes the practical value of communicative translation theory on translating informative texts. Finally, she explores translation techniques from the lexical level and syntactic level under the guidance of communicative translation theory.
