The adherence to the order of reciprocity and equality and the construction of a better life have always been the unremitting goals pursued by intellectuals in every historical period. In the tradition of contemporary western Marxist philosophy, there is no lack of ethical conception of social life. However, the ethical thinking is mostly scattered in the theoretical system of thinkers, and there are few thinkers and works devoted to the exploration of ethical thoughts.Terry Eagleton focuses on his ethics in Trouble with Strangers:a study of ethics.Different from other Western Marxists,Eagleton reconstructs ethicists in the history of western philosophy by drawing lessons from many kinds of ideological resources, especially by using Lacan's psychoanalysis method. In the field of life and theory which is constantly formed,it develops its ideological picture and seeks the possibility of its practical practice, that is,the real ethical question is how to deal with a stranger who is as alive as we are.Eagleton, along the way of Aristotle,Aquinas,Hegel and Marx, thought about real life, standing on the standpoint of Marxist theory, his thought always focused on the practice of life. From the beginning of academic career, ethical thinking runs through it.In addition, his ethics was deeply influenced by British aesthetics in the 18 th century, and he saw the role of emotional mechanism in ethical life.Eagleton summed up his ethical point of view that understanding the nature of a person depends on whether he creates space for others so that they can create space for others so that the political transformation of class society can be completed in practice. In the face of complex and changeable realistic situation, his political activities developed from literary criticism to ethical political criticism.Through the analysis of the "other" problem,Eagleton devoted himself to constructing a materialistic ethics starting from the "body".Eagleton placed the 18th-century British ethicists who pay attention to the emotional mechanism to organize the relationship between themselves and others in the imaginative world and put emphasis on the statute of legal authority through the concept of "three bounds" formed by Lacan's main body.Spinoza and Kant, who discover the relationship between subject and other from the inter-subjectivity,belong to symbolic ethics. Finally, the thinkers who are dissatisfied with desire, compromise to chance, and exclude limited independent individuals are placed in the real world. In the process of ideological development,Eagleton still holds the Marxist position, criticizes the post-modernist political position and body discourse, and enriches the western Marxist ethical thought. But at the same time,we should see the theological tendency and Utopia color of his theory.Although not a philosopher in the narrow sense of professionalism,Eagleton, with his broad horizon and political concern, transmitted the relationship between the subject and the other under bourgeois rule, which helped us to construct a kind of social ethics in the future society. On the basis of systematically combing Eagleton's ethics, the article tries to grasp its rich connotation and theoretical value.
