| Nowadays,science and technology effect on the society comprehensively and deeply,but ordinary people except scientists know little of science and technology.The book,Secrets of Infinity,edited by Antonio Lamúa,explains some important points in technology and science,concentrating on such subjects in human developments as science,mathematics,technology,art,philosophy and symbology by employing accessible expressions.This translation report is based on the translation of the second chapter of a popular text entitled Secrets of Infinity,which elucidates the connotation of “infinity” and various forms of “infinity”.Popular text can be translated by communicative translation.Communicative translation emphasizes the importance of translator,which is similar to translator’s leading role in Eco-translatology.Under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the author analyzed the translation process and difficulties with the help of the idea that translation is adaptation and selection as well as communicative translation.This report employs a variety of translation techniques including linear translation,division,recasting and amplification by repetition in solving difficulties on the lexical(terminology,compound words,polysemous words and non-English words),syntactic(appositive clause,attributive clause,long and complex sentences)and discourse levels.Hopefully,this report can bring some inspiration for future translators engaged in translating Mathematic English. |
