A Report On The E-C Translation Of Aviation Instructor's Handbook(chapter 8)

Translation activity has been an important channel for civil aviation practitioners in China to study and refer to advanced ideas and technologies from abroad and also a significant link to promote the internationalization of the entire aviation industry.This translation report is based on the E-C translation of “Aviation Instructor's Handbook(Chapter 8)” issued by FAA(Federal Aviation Administration)of the United States as a regulatory reference.Discussion and analysis are conducted in light of the problems encountered in the process of translation on linguistic level,including the translation of civil aviation terminologies,professional concept and complicated sentences;and problems on extra-linguistic level,including the selection of translation strategies,application of CAT(Computer Aided Translation)and MT(Machine Translation)plus PE(Post Editing)in order to facilitate a set of comprehensive translation methods that contributes to ESP(English for Special Purposes)translation and EST(English for science and technology)translation: practice & accumulation,study & investigation,statistics & quantification.Hence,this report further summarizes necessary linguistic qualities(bilingual competence)and extra-linguistic qualities(command of translation aids)of a modern qualified translator so as to deepen the train of thought on translation and to improve not only the competence of the translators themselves but the translation standard of the entire field in an all-round way,hoping to provide valuable reference for related translation activities and studies in the future.
