An English Translation Report Of Chinese Fantasy Novel "the Invincible Warrior" (Excerpts) Based On The Functional Equivalence Theory

Under the context of the deepening globalization,Chinese culture keeps influencing the world culture in recent years.In the field of translation,the development of the web novels translation can prove the above point most.In the past,major translation companies in China were only to provide language services in various fields without excessive involvement in cultural communication.In 2013,the Transn Technology Co.,Ltd.Firstly employed professional translators to translate the popular web novels and serialized them in foreign website forums,receiving many good feedbacks from foreign readers.Since then,the translation of web novels has begun.Based on the functional equivalence theory,the translation report briefly states the development of the network novel translation and the background of the era.Then it introduces the structure of this report and briefly expounds the characteristics of web novel translation and the source text.On the basis of a brief introduction to the theory of equivalence and arguing the applicability of the theory,this paper uses examples and feasible translation strategies such as literal translation,free translation,additional translation,omission translation,borrowing,misplacement,etc.to prove the necessity and inevitability of applying different translation strategies in the translation of web novels.Moreover,the paper also points out the difficulties and critical problems in translation.By applying the feasible translation strategies under functional equivalence theory to the translation of web novels,the author acquires a deeper understanding of the translation of web novels.On the one hand,translators should take good habits of foreign language writing,such as the usage of the label words that “said”,“ask”,and the narrative technique of fully presenting the inner monologues of the character.On the other hand,translators should be able to understand the characteristics of Chinese culture and be familiar with the origins of related allusions.Translation of web novels is different from the translation of the general text.Translators need to have good intercultural competence.
