Words that share similar or related meanings are easily confused by students who study Chinese as a foreign language.The challenge of choosing the right method to teach these Semantically Confused Chinese Words(hereinafter referred to as “SCC Words”)has attracted ever-increasing attention.On the basis of previous studies on easily confused words,this dissertation conducts a comprehensive and in-depth study of such SCC Words,and choose the assembling method as the teaching guidance and instruction.The first part of this dissertation is comprised of the definition and features of SCC Words.The retrieving and sorting SCC Words process is based on the 1200 Chinese words from Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level 4 and HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus.The features of SCC Words can be summed up in terms of syllable quantity,morpheme and part of speech.The second part of this dissertation is comprised of the types and causes of SCC Words.Based on the semantical distance,the SCC words can be divided into semantically similar words and semantically related words.We analyze the causes of SCC Words from two different perspectives: language itself and teaching,and they can be concluded into several aspects,like the characteristics of Chinese language,the negative transfer of the native language,inappropriate interpretations,the lack of practice and correction,the students' own reasons and so on.The third part of this dissertation is comprised of the types of teaching chunk,the principles of assembling teaching chunks,the procedures and the strategies of Assembling method.
