This translation practice report aims at the study of the English translation of classic chapters in the History of Chinese Astronomy, exploring the best strategies of astronomy classics translation through case analysis.China is one of the earliest civilizations with the fastest development and the most achievements in ancient astronomy, and has accumulated a large amount of observation data over thousands of years, which has greatly promoted the development of world astronomy. However, some western scholars argue that the ancient Chinese astronomy is a continuation of the development of western astronomy, denying ancient Chinese astronomical achievements.A reason for the prejudice is that many of China's existing astronomical classics have no English translation. In light of this asymmetric cultural exchange, the translation of astronomical classics of ancient China is of great significance in presenting China's traditional cultures to the world.Under the background of the spread of Chinese culture, this practice report draws lessons from the ideas and methods of English translation of classics in recent years. In addition, under the guidance of Skopostheorie, the author translated and summarized some chapters in the History of Chinese Astronomy by means of case study and comparative analysis. The guiding theory of this translation practice report is Skopostheorie. The purpose principle lays the overall tone of the astronomical classics translation, the faithful principle optimizes the translation of culturally distinctive vocabulary, while the coherence principle guides the word order of the astronomical classics translation.Through the analysis of the original text at the level of lexis, syntax and discourse, the author has concluded that the characteristics of the astronomy classic texts are rich in terminology, and much intralingual translation is needed. In view of the characteristics of the original text, this paper, under the guidance of Skopostheorie, comes up with conclusions in the translation of ancient Chinese astronomical classics.Specific translation strategies and methods are discussed, such as repetition, substitution and adaptation.
