In recent years, under the guidance of "going-out" and "One Belt,One Road"national strategies,Chinese-English translation has gained significant attention and efforts, but the translation of educational works still takes a very small portion, which is not conducive to the transmission of Chinese educational philosophy.Based on the translation project of The History of Education in China, this report attends to deal with the difficulties in translating Chinese culture-loaded words and expressions and educational philosophy with Chinese characteristics. The source text is excerpted from Chapter ?(third part)of The History of Education in China, which mainly discusses the educational theories and opinions of Confucius. The History Education in China puts "pedagogy" and "history" together and discusses the development of Chinese education from the diachronic perspective, which is of high academic value and great significance to the teaching practice. With careful retrieval, the translator has not found any English version of this book yet. This report consists of five parts. The introduction part is mainly about the background of the translation practice,a review of literature on translation of educational books in China and the research purposes and significance of this report. The second part is a detailed description of the translation project. The third part analyzes the source text from the perspective of culture-loaded words and expressions, educational terminology and quotations taken from the Chinese classics. The fourth part,as the main part of this report, mainly discusses the difficulties in the process of translation and puts forward related translation strategy and approaches to solve the problems, like the strategy of foreignization, the approaches of transliteration-plus-annotation,liberal translation,transliteration-plus-literal translation and others in order to achieve the purpose of culture transmission. The fifth part summarizes the gains and defects of this translation practice and puts forward some suggestions for the translation of educational books, hoping to provide some useful reference for the research and practice of Chinese-English translation of the same kind and making a contribution to the introduction of excellent Chinese education philosophy to the world.
