Today, the international schools in Shanghai are adhering to different teaching ideas, this paper will select the two main categories to study. One is the international division set up by the domestic public schools, the international division as a department of the school;the other is the international schools opened by expatriates, that is,the international schools we know well.Different types of international schools have different forms of Chinese teaching, this paper will select a typical representative of the two schools to compare to find the advantages and disadvantages of the two.Hope that it will play a guiding significance for reference for the follow-up teaching work through the discussion of the contents of this paper. This paper takes the Shanghai High School International Division and the Western International School of Shanghai as examples to compare the similarities and differences between the two in Chinese teaching. This paper first introduces the concept, geographical distribution, quantity and development trend of international schools. From this,we can see that the development of international schools in China has a bright future, and then points out that the study of the Chinese language in international schools has become a topic that can’t be ignored. In this paper, the present situation of Chinese teaching in international schools in Shanghai is analyzed under the precondition of combing with the questionnaire of teachers and students. And then based on the two teachers and students survey results show the corresponding recommendations for the two schools, and finally a little summary. The differences between the two schools in terms of teaching philosophy and students’ composition are different in many aspects.By comparing the two schools,it is suggested that SHSID should strengthen the emphasis on non-native language classes and divide non-native speakers into Chinese and non-Chinese.It is suggested that WISS should recruit new teachers to balance the workload of Chinese teachers and strengthen the training of IB projects to Chinese teachers.
