With the increasingly frequent cross-cultural exchanges between China and other countries,a large number of well-produced American TV series have been introduced into China and enjoyed by Chinese audiences, and numerous subtitle translation groups come into being on the internet. Most of the subtitle translation members do the subtitle translation in their spare time out of the passion for English, and then upload the translated works to the internet for viewers to watch. At present, the development of subtitle translation industry is not mature and professional enough, and lacks professional theoretical guidance,so it faces a variety of problems. In many American dramas introduced into China, sitcoms attract a great deal of audiences due to its cheerful atmosphere, compact plot and exaggerated performance of actors. Therefore, the thesis takes the typical American sitcom 2 Broke Girls as an example and studies the translation of humorous subtitle under the guidance of skopos theory, the core theory of German Functionalist.Skopos theory emphasizes that translation is a purposeful human behavior,so the humorous subtitle of translation should also follow this principle.Under the guidance of skopos theory, this thesis classifies and analyzes the humorous languages in 2 Broke Girls and adopts three translation strategies: literal translation, free translation, domestication.According to the guidance of skopos theory, translators can utilize more flexible translation methods without being limited to the above strategies to attain the maximum effect of humorous subtitle translation.Theoretically, the thesis verifies that skopos theory is of great significance to the study of humorous subtitle translation of American sitcoms and plays an important supporting role in the further promotion of sitcoms in China in the future.
