Large amount of foreign TV programs have flooded into China since the implementation of Reform and Opening-up.With the development of stream media and download technology, the needs for audiovisual translation increased tremendously.Under this circumstance, many subtitle translation groups come into being on the internet. Most of their members are doing their jobs such as translation, revision and compression in their spare time, and then the compressed programs with translated subtitles will be released on the internet for target audience to watch or download free of charge. As one popular genre of the TV programs, sitcoms attract much attention for their humorous storylines, spanking paces and loaded culture. This thesis takes skopos rule under the Skopos Theory as the guidance in analyzing the verbal humor translation in 2 Broke Girls in the framework of Functional Theories of Translation, which holds the view that every action is intentional, including translation. The most important intention of translating subtitles for sitcoms is to transmit the comic effects in the original text to the target language audience.Through the analysis of the characteristics of verbal humors in 2 Broke Girls, this thesis chooses 13 types of verbal humors from the perspectives of word, rhetoric and culture to analyze the verbal humor translation, and concludes that the translated subtitles by Chinese subtitle translation groups can realize the intention of transmitting comic effects to the target language audience.
