As a short story writer,Canadian writer, and female writer,Munro's multiple identities have made her work a certain complexity. She can show the rich content of her works with her exquisite narrative skills and plain language style.Munro has incorporated his own growth experience and insight into the life of ordinary towns in Canada, and has created many attractive female images.According to different stages of life,I will divide the female images in Munro's works into three categories in this article,to find the common characteristics of these characters, analyze the problems they face at different times and the reasons behind them through their choices, examine Munro's care for women's growth and her thinking from various angles. The first category is the image of a girl in Munro's works. These girls live in the context of patriarchal culture.Through the youthfulness of their youth, they have experienced the confusion and exploration of major propositions in life gender, such as sex, religious belief,death,life,mother-daughter relationship, etc. They form their own cognition while constantly understanding the world, and finally establish their status. The second category is the image of middle-aged women in Munro's works.Although women in this period have been matured, they have encountered new problems at this time. They can't find meaningful reason of exists, because the family has shackled them for a long time. They try to find their own value again, but they are troubled by how to balance or make choices between family and self-value.The third category is the image of older women in Munro's works.Older women are gradually unable to keep up with the pace of development of the times. They also face the threat of disease and death. They miss the past and feel the surrounding environment with sensitive inner feelings. They experienced three stages of life, like dissociating of the times, missing the past but still facing reality with hope, facing the life with the attitude of peace and tolerance, and finally reaching reconciliation with life.Although the heroines in different periods are quite different, they have shown a growing trend on the whole. They have grown from young girls with the spirit of exploration to middle-aged women who were in trouble, then to older women who have reached a settlement with life and everything. The life of the women described by Munro is complex and vivid, and the female characters created by her are true and full.I will combine the narrative skills and superb language expression ability of Munro's writing, and use the method of close reading to analyze the female images of her three periods from the perspectives of feminism and existentialism. Finally,in addition to summarizing the three types of images,I will also analyze the origin of female images in three dimensions, like male discourse,Munro's growth experience, and regional culture of the town.At the same time,I will discuss the limitations of the female image created by Munro.Through the analysis of Munro's female images,I believe that Munro is different from other short story writers because there is no absurd, undulating life in her novels.Munro grasps the details of life, and describes mediocre, trivial, and real women's life with pessimistic and cruel attitude. The female characters shaped by Munro did not restlessly challenge the fate of injustice. What they did was to face their own lives and accept everything indifferently.Munro had never found out the way to save woman. But she was not desperate.Munro thought that the life of ordinary women is just like this.
