The translation of English academic monograph is of great significance inthe introduction of cutting-edge achievements in scientific and cultural studies abroadinto China. However English academic monograph usually contains a great number ofcomplicated long sentences, which pose great challenges and obstacles to E-Ctranslation. Based on the translation of the15thchapter of Humboldt, Worldview andLanguage, this paper presents a research on the translation of long sentences fromEnglish to Chinese. It starts with defining the concept of long sentence, and thenthrough summarizing the translation criteria of long sentences in English academicmonograph, attempts to establish the creative and universally applicable translationstrategies under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory.
