Translation Report On Myths And Legends Of The Bai (Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Narrative Theory

China is a multi-ethnic country with a long history and rich culture.The history and culture of the various ethnic groups have greatly enriched the history and culture of the Chinese nation.The classical literary works of the various ethnic groups have provided extensive space for the researchers and translators.The Bai ethnic group of Yunnan is one of the minorities in this piece of laterite plateau.Myths and legends are an important part of the Bai culture.Myths and Legends of the Bai reflects the culture,values,aesthetic,psychology and so on of the Bai people in Yunnan,which has high research value and spreading value.The combination of narratology and translation is innovative.As a scholar from University of Manchester,Mona Baker's creative introduction of narrative theory into translation study has achieved outstanding results.Myths and Legends of the Bai belongs to folk oral narrative.The translator believes that narrative theory is a good match for the study and translation of this book,which was not translated before.From the perspective of concern for the TL readers,the translator chooses repositioning of participants from Mona Baker's narrative theory.Different translation strategies,translation methods,and translation skills are adopted during the translation process.Few researches on the myths and legends of the ethnic groups are under the guidance of narrative theory,and the translator hopes to make an attempt in this field.The translator expects to make a small contribution to the spreading of the Chinese minority cultures.The translation report consists of two parts.The first part is the source text and the translation and the second part is the translation report.The translator chooses the third part“Myths and Legends of Patron God” from this book to translate.The Patron God culture is the typical local knowledge of the Bai ethnic group in Yunnan with distinctive characteristics.The second part translation report mainly contains the background and significance of the chosen topic,an introduction to the source text,the preparations for the translation,the difficulties in the translation process,the theoretical framework,the case study,and the summary.
