Thomas Negel's theory of moral motivation is based on Kant's theory of moral motivation, inherited from the ethical thought of moral realism, and originated in the United States, which was in the "internal and external troubles" at that time.It is the common product of theory and times. Therefore,in terms of the content of moral motivation,Negel constructed the basic principle that reason reason takes precedence over desire,as well as the prudence of moral motivation theory based on time dimension and the altruistic moral motivation theory based on space dimension. On the path of moral motivation,he starts with meta-ethics and normative ethics, takes the issue of moral motivation as an entry point to dissect the moral problems of the times, takes the discussion of the source of moral motivation as meta-ethics,and takes the discussion of prudent moral motivation and altruistic moral motivation as normative ethics to construct the metaphysics of objective moral motivation of the final person.Nevertheless,Negel's theory of moral motivation has many limitations:the suspension of the problem of rational "unable to control oneself",the circular argument and internal contradictions, and the weakness in reality. In view of this,we need to stand in the perspective of Marxist ethics and make critical reflection and reference from three aspects: the comprehensive understanding of moral motivation, the comprehensive strengthening of moral cultivation and the practical implementation of moral punishment.
