News is not in a closed state, but shows strong intertextuality with some elements projected on to one another inside the text as well as on to those in the surrounding environment. Therefore, intertextuality theory is helpful for a translator to understand the original content in a comprehensive and correct way. When translating news,a translator must pay close attention to the identification of intertextuality spots in the original texts, and on this basis, supplemented by proper translation techniques, the translations can be effectively made more acceptable.Based on the active and passive intertextuality put forward by Hatim and Mason, this thesis will concentrate on analyzing the actual use of explanatory translation in the translated energy news published on the website and in the Journal of China Research Institute of Global Energy Public Opinion,in order to elaborate on the necessity and positive effects of explaining original texts while translating energy news. The research shows, after explanation, the readability of translated news is improved significantly, which shows that the accurate identification and explanation of the intertextual spots, whether passive or positive, can help a translator grasp the intertextual information, and accordingly take such measures as additions, replacements, deletions, etc.,to reconstruct the translations, and clarify the logic of the new texts. This has proved to be effective in removing the barriers that block readers' understanding and acceptability of the translated news.
