Intertextuality is coined by Julia Kristeva and developed by different scholars from different perspectives. Initially, intertextuality theory is widely used in literary studies. According to the tireless efforts of scholars, this theory has extended to wider areas of non-literature. One of aspects is that introducing the theory into translation field, which is important to the translation theory and practice. Actually, translation process is a kind of intertextual activity with a broad explanation. In translation process, a translator has two roles which are the reader of original text and the writer of translation.This thesis analyzes the soft news translation from the perspective of intertextuality. As we know, soft news is an important part in news reporting and very popular in western countries. The translation of this news becomes more flexible. There exists many intertextual phenomena according to the features of soft news. And the thesis gives several examples to illustrate that the intertextuality is obviously used in soft news. At the same time, it explores translation principles and methods to achieve intertextual equivalence in soft news. To introduce the intertextuality into the translation of soft news, translators can give better understanding of the relationship between soft news and other related texts and improve the quality of translation.
