In the 1960 s,French semiotics Julia Kristeva,based on the theory of Bakhtin's "dialogue" and the word-formation,created the word “intertext” and put forward the theory of "Intertextuality".Since this theory has been proposed,it has become a hot topic in the field of literature research and translation research.In the second half of the 20 th century,the theory of intertextuality was further improved by the development of people like Roland barthers,Riffaterre and Genette.In the 1990 s,the British scholar,Hatim and Masonput the intertextuality theory into the field of translation in the Discourse and the Translator,which provides a new perspective for translation theory and practice.Taking the The Peony Pavilionand its JapaneseversionThe Peony Pavilionas the study text and the original symbol of intertextuality as the study basis,this thesis mainly studies the steps of intertextuality translation and the reasons of using these translation techniques.In this thesis,by analyzing the concrete examples,the author summarizes the tendency of translators in translation strategy.In thestudy of intertextuality translation in peony pavilion,the translator has experienced three translation steps: therecognition of intertextuality symbols,the understanding of intertextuality symbols and the reappearance of intertextuality symbol.In the process of the reappearance of intertextuality symbols,considering the spread of macroscopic rational culture,the translator tends to adopt foreignization translation skills to balance the opposition of symbols and content.
