A Study Of Explicitation Under Translation Variation Theory

The translation practice was from a book about the HECI's lesson.The book,translated by the writer,is a technical text with a lot of political issues.When translating it,the writer finds that the source language covers substantial implicit information that needs the translator to do explication,so that the readers can accept the translation.Therefore,the writer regards the explication as the aim of translating.As for the translation variation theory,it has seven adaptations and eleven variable translation techniques,which focus on how to guide translation activities.Through combining the explication and translation variation theory,this paper studies how to do explication through the methods from translation variation theory to let the implication information from source language be demonstrated in target language and achieve the aim of explication.In the chapter of literature review,the writer provides a new definition to explication,that is,based on the implicate information when source language is translated into target language,explication is an aim of articulating implicate information by means of translation skills.Under the definition of explication and according to the different types of implication information,the explication is divided into three aspects,they are,textual cohesion;semantic domain and cultural implication.After defining and classifying the explication,the method case study is used to analyze the cases the writer chooses from the source language.First of all,these cases are separated into three groups according to the classification of explication,such as textual cohesion,semantic domain and cultural implication.Different variation methods are chosen to do explication because of different types of implicate information that needs to be made clear.Then,this paper summarizes the normal rules and variation methods that different types of explication require.Consequently,this paper abstractsthe explication strategy.Three methods,explanatory translation,revision and selective translation can meet the needs of textual cohesion.Reviewing,revision,translating write and deduction can satisfy the semantic domain.As for the cultural implication,the methods of paraphrasing and deduction can cater to it.However,this paper also has some shortcomings which need to be focused and more research should be done to improve the quality of this paper.
