As an emerging interdiscipline, ecolinguistics aims to study the interactions between language and environment. The non-ecological elements in language, reflecting the non-ecological consciousness, namely anthropocentrism, classism, growthism are one of the focuses in ecolinguistic study. However, translators tend to neglect the underlying non-ecological consciousness in those elements, conveying vague ecological ideas.Based on ecolinguistics, the study explores the translation of non-ecological elements, with a view of enabling readers to recognize the non-ecological consciousness in language. The translation project is an article from Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Moral Issues.Guided by ecolinguistics, the study identifies the non-ecolinguistic elements in the source text, proposes translation strategies and highlights the non-ecological consciousness in the target text.Firstly, the non-ecological elements in the source text are classified in accordance with their non-ecological performances. Then drawing on ecolinguistics,it puts forward a translation principle that translators should make the implicit non-ecological consciousness explicit. This principle gives birth to our translation strategies governing the translation of non-ecological elements. The non-ecological elements in the source text include passive structure, nominalization, compound nouns and sentences with inanimate subjects. These elements, hiding the human agent and materializing the non-human beings, embody producers' anthropocentrism and non-ecological ideology. As to the translation of passive structure and nominalization, translators should adopt explicitness to uncover the hidden agents. When translating compound nouns and sentences with inanimate subjects, translators should apply conversion to highlight the fact that human beings are imposing their willingness on non-human beings. This study enriches the application of ecolinguistics, and provides guidance to translators and invite them to be responsibility for the construction of ecological world.
