A Study Of The Top Ten Buzzwords Of The Year Based On Ecolinguistics

Internet buzzwords are the most frequently used ones in network language and the most popular expressions for netizens,which display the changes of social environment,humanistic environment and natural environment.Among them,the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year are the most authoritative and representative ones.In the recent years,the research on internet buzzwords has been a hot topic.As a new interdisciplinary subject,ecolinguistics provides a new way of inquiry and scientific methods for the study of network buzzwords.This study takes the 110 Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year from 2008 to 2018 released by the magazine YAOWEN-JIAOZI as the research object and Haugen’s concepts of ecolinguistics as the theoretical basis,and makes a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year,aiming at solving the following three questions: First,what are the types of the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year? Second,what is the ecological environment for the generation of the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year? Third,what kind of ecological view do the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year reflect? Through detailed research,the major findings are as follows: First,the 110 Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year can be classified into six groups according to their origins,including current political buzzwords,entertainment buzzwords,social events buzzwords,people’s livelihood buzzwords,borrowing buzzwords and the other category.Second,the generating environment of the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year consists of the external and internal ecological environments.The external environment includes natural environment,social environment,cultural environment and user-related environment.The internal environment is the characteristics of language itself,which is beneficial to the generation and development of language,namely,language diversity and language dynamics.Third,there are three ecological views reflected by the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year,namely,social ecological view,humanistic ecological view and natural ecological view.Through rearrangement and classification,this study explores the origin of the Top Ten Buzzwords of the Year,analyzes the ecological environment for their generation,illustrates their relationship between the generating environment and the Top Ten Buzzwords themselves,and studies the ecological views behind them,which is of use in helping people better understand the current developing situation and trends of the network buzzwords and guiding them to treat and use them correctly.In the end,it is conducive to establishing ecological language concepts,creating a harmonious and ecological network environment and finally promoting the construction of a harmonious and civilized society.
