Hume Problem:Debate And Analysis

Since the appearance of Hume problem,disputes related to Hume problem have ensued and how to interpret Hume problem became one of the core issues for analyzing Hume problem.This paper will investigate various disputes one by one,also study the different interpretations that disputers make regarding Hume problem,so as to present the mainstream opinions about Hume problem.Based on that,this paper will prove that these different disputes are actually all about one problem,which is “casual necessity”.Then,this paper will analyze these interpretations,and finally re-interpret Hume's problem.The Introduction is going to state the importance of Hume problem,and the main disagreements on interpreting Hume problem.According to the understanding of the disputes related to Hume problem,this paper will illustrate the main work.At the same time,this paper will propose the opinion regarding problems related to these work.Chapter 1 will focus on discussing “New Hume debate”,beyond “New Hume debate”,Changjie Luo further divided the disputes into regularity theorists and naturalist,while Shenglin Tie called them in a joint name,“New Hume debate”.In order to avoid the confusion about dispute division,this paper will follow the divisions made by Changjie Luo to investigate the propositions of these disputers,and point out that these disputes all come down in one continuous line in essence,their discussions are mainly focused on cause-effect necessity,therefore,all these disputes can be called “New Hume debate”.Chapter 2 will study and summarize the propositions made by philosophers and other domestic scholars such as Zhilin Zhang.Beyond “New Hume debate”,Zhilin Zhang proposed that “New Hume debate” consists of problems of induction and problems of cause-effect,there are some imperfection with the interpretation made by traditional philosophers.After investigation into their propositions,this paper will point out the opinion of Zhilin Zhang actually coincided with the “New Hume debate”,and problems put forward by Zhilin Zhang can also be deemed to be problems about cause-effect necessity.Through the research on these disputes,Chapter 3 will combine these problems into a single problem of cause-effect necessity.This paper will sort out the Hume problems from Hume text again,and figure out among all these disputes,which one is closer to the original meaning of Hume,after that,this paper will point out the shortcomings existed in debate,and re-interpretation of Hume's Problem.
