| A Love Story for the Red Earth is a prose written by Yang Zhenkun.This book mainly introduces Yang's beloved hometown,Yunnan.It shows people the natural landscape and the places of historic figures and cultural heritage.It depicts the colorful charm of Yunnan in a multi-faceted and three-dimensional manner.The book is full of knowledge,literariness and fun so that readers can intuitively feel not only the natural features of Yunnan,but also the author's love for his homeland and deep nostalgia.The book is filled with a strong literary flavor.It also shows the author's richness in cultural deposits and his excellent ability for diction.A Love Song for the Red Earth consists of three love songs.The first love song is called “there is a beautiful place”,which introduces us the natural scenery of Yunnan province.The second love song is “there is a miraculous place”,which mainly shows us the unique local customs.The third love song is “there is a fertile place”,which briefly introduces the abundant natural resources of Yunnan province.This translation report is based on the practice of translating the first love song from Chinese to English.It is my practice of Chinese to English translation of the first love song in the book.There are many descriptions,ancient poems,and legends in the source text.Guided by domestication and foreignization in Lawrence Venuti's theoretical system,the translator makes a detailed analysis of the translation methods and strategies that are used in the translation,and seeks the good balance of the domestication and foreignization in this process.Most of Yunnan's local cultures are strange to the target language readers and foreignization may lead to too many culture shocks.So the translator will mainly apply domestication strategy in her translation.The translation shows the local customs of Yunnan in an all-round way,which can arouse the interest of the target language readers,so that they can have a deeper understanding of Yunnan's local culture. |
