A Report On Chinese To English Translation Of The Third Love Song In A Love Story For The Red Earth

A Love Story for the Red Earth is a collection of proses written by the famous Chinese writer, Yang Zhenkun. It consists of three love songs: the first song-- There is a Beautiful Place, is the portrayal of Yunnan beautiful scenery. The second song--There is a Mysterious Place is a description of Yunnan ethnic groups’ cultures and their characteristics. The third song-- There is a Fertile Place, is the introduction to the animal, plant and mine resources in Yunnan.This translation report is based on the Chinese to English translation of Chapters1 and 2 in the third song. Because the contents and styles of the source text are abundant and divers, the translator divided it into two parts: 1) the introduction to Yunnan plant and animal resources; 2) the narration of Yunnan ethnic groups’ stories.And the translator chose the communicative and semantic translation methods from Newmark’s theoretical framework as translating guidance, then analyzed the translation from the method and strategy application.This report has three parts: the first part presents the source text and the translated text; the second part introduces the background, significance,translation process, and translation methods that the translator has adopted, then analyses examples in translation; the third part gives a summary.
