Nowadays,with the growing attention attached to English,English learning self-concept and autonomous learning ability,two vital internal factors of English learning,have received bulks of research respectively.However,little research has been done by combining them together.Based on the hypothesis that one's beliefs and behaviors are related to each other,the present study aims to delve into the correlation between English learning self-concept and autonomous learning ability of senior high school students further after exploring the current situation of them two.A quantitative research method combined with a qualitative research method were employed in the present study.The questionnaires of English learning self-concept and autonomous English learning ability were firstly distributed to totally 305 students from a high school in Kunming randomly,and 18 out of the total students were then invited to a semi-structured interview.After a careful analysis of all the data collected,it turned out that firstly,senior high school students had a relatively negative English learning self-concept and a relatively low autonomous English learning ability.Besides,there existed a significantly positive and moderate correlation between their English learning self-concept and autonomous English learning ability,which indicates that the building of the positive English learning self-concept can facilitate high school students' autonomous learning ability and the improvement of students' autonomous learning ability are also helpful for the building of their English learning self-concept.Based on the findings above,several ways to promote positive English learning self-concept of senior high school students and their autonomous learning ability were proposed,which will not only benefit the teachers,but the students as well.The results of the present study will also provide a hint for the future study of students' autonomous learning ability.
