The Research Of Chen Wenshu

Chen Wenshu was a romantic poet during Jiaqing-Daoguang period in Qing dynasty,who left a large number of poems and literary works that few people cared.The focus of modern scholars was mostly on the literary activities with his female disciples and the remarkable writings of women.His achievement were mentioned mainly because of his close association with female writers.There have been very limited understanding of Chen's biographical details,academic trends and poetic value.Thus,this paper aims to make an overall and system research of Chen,based on his twenty-five kinds of collected work,literary works written by his contemporaries and other sources.This paper is organized in 2 parts consisting of 10 chapters as follows:a.Study on Chen's family,life and friends-making.Chapter one: Introducing family background,especially for kinship by marriage with Jiangnan literature family.Chapter two: Investigation into three periods of Chen's life experience,exploring his official career,inner world and complicated personality.Chapter three: Discussion on Chen's involving in Ruan Yuan's academic coterie,starting from being highly appreciated by Ruan Yuan,the leader of coterie,for Chen's poem about circular fan.From his friendship with Ruan and his participation in literary editing activities,we can understand the different division of labour in the coterie as well as the influence between poets and scholars.Chapter four: Discussing Chen's making friend with Shu Wei and Xiao Lun at "Guiye Shutang"(Osmanthus leaf Room)where Chen invited his good friends to host informal poetry gatherings.Elaborating his relationship with The Ranks of the Poets in Qianlong and Jiaqing Period,we will deepen understand the role Chen played in this book.Chapter five: Discussing Chen and Qian Du's poetry and painting exchange,and this is real reflection of the poets' and painters' communication situation in Qing dynasty.Chapter six: Defending Gu Taiqing's defamation of Chen's reputation through utilizing Chen's poems and related materials that never read before.Searching the causes and the consequences of his track in Beijing,we will give a reasonable supplement that Xu Yunlin,a mutual friend of Chen and Gu,is supposed to be the important clue character of this mystery.b.Study on Chen's works and writing.Chapter one: Arranging and listing Chen's twenty-eight books with summary of their versions,synopses and values for further reference.Chapter two: Revealing that Chen is the representative of learning Meicun Style in Qing Dynasty in the method of analysing the narrative features and the regular way of changing rhymes.What's more,Chen developed more themes and writing techniques in Meicun Style poems,gazing female to make them an object.Chapter three: Explaining Chen's poetic style changes by comparing flowery languages in early collections with allegorical poems for Confucian poetic principle in later re-compilation,which might be the responding to the entire school of poetry in Qing dynasty.Chapter four: Demonstrating Chen's acceptance and reference of Li Bai amid his devoted believe of Taoism,this study focus on confirming Chen's impacts and contribution to the history of Li Bai worship in Qing dynastry.The conclusion part make a judgment on Chen's poetry world,which embodied in the tendency of universal emotion and prosperous literary scene.
