The concept of self-compassion comes from Buddhist psychology, which refers to the openness and acceptance of self-failure or shortcomings, and the application of patience, kindness, and unconditional understanding.Studies have shown that self-compassion ability is related to mental health, but the mechanism of how it acts on mental health is still unclear.Cognitive emotion regulation strategy is a way to regulate emotions when people face stress events, which could be divided into adaptive and maladaptive.Previous studies found that cognitive emotion regulation strategies are closely related to mental health.Adopting adaptive adjustment strategies is conducive to preventing multiple mental health problems.Excessive maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies often lead to mental health problems or deterioration. The author of the concept of self-compassion believes that self-compassion can be regarded as an effective cognitive emotion regulation strategy, and later studies have found that the positive component of self-compassion can be used not only for emotional regulation, but also promote the use of other emotional regulation strategies. Therefore, the promotion of self-compassion to emotional regulation strategies may be an important way to influence mental health. This study takes the general college student group as the research object, and uses cross-sectional study to explore the adaptive and maladaptive adjustment strategies as multiple mediating role between positive self-compassion and negative seJf-conpassion and depression, anxiety and loneliness. In this study, the subjects were selected from the college students in Xi'an,and the questionnaire was collected through the network.A total of 730 questionnaires were collected,of which 629 questionnaires entered the statistics process in the end.The study used SPSS as the data analysis software, and used t test, analysis of variance and correlation analysis to test the correlation of variables. The multiple mediation model was tested by PROCESS macro plug-in in SPSS 23.0.Positive or negative self-compassion was used as predictor, respectively, with depression and anxiety and loneliness as result and adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation as multiple mediators.Six multiple mediation models were tested. The results show that(1)maladaptive cognitive regulation strategies play a significant mediating role between positive self-compassion and depression;(2)adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies play a significant mediating role between negative self-compassion and depression;(3)maladaptive cognitive regulation strategies play a significant mediating role between positive self-compassion and anxiety;(4)Adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies significantly mediate negative self-compassion and anxiety(5)Adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies significantly mediate positive self-compassion and loneliness;(6)adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies also significantly mediate negative self-compassion and loneliness. On the whole, cognitive mediation strategies have a significant mediating effect between self-compassion and psychological symptoms.Mediating model with negative self-compassion as a predictor is better than positive self-compassion as a predictor, and mediation is mostly through maladaptive regulation strategy to achieve. Therefore, the process of self-compassion through cognitive emotion regulation strategies affecting psychological symptoms was mainly by affecting maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies. In summary, this study explored the mediating role of adaptive and maladaptive emotional regulation strategies between positive and negative self-compassion and depression, anxiety, and loneliness, and found that the process of negative self-compassion through maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy effecting psychological symptoms play an important role in how self-compassion influence psychological symptoms, which making up for the lack of dimension differentiation between self-compassion and cognitive emotion regulation strategies in previous studies, and expanding the previous self-compassion research results about the mechanism of self-compassion impacting mental health. This study can provide reference for the research and development of clinical therapies based on self-compassion or cognitive emotion regulation strategies, which means we should pay more attention to correcting or adjusting negative self-sympathetic thinking and maladaptive cognitive emotions.
