With the rapid development of modern social economy,people pay more and more attention to education.There are more and more students at all levels in the extracurricular training institutions.Therefore,many graduates choose to serve in the extracurricular training institutions as teachers,especially the English majors.Till now,there are few researches on teachers in extracurricular training institutions and especially the researches on English teachers and their professional development.Therefore,the research on English teachers' professional development in extracurricular training institutions is extremely urgent.This thesis mainly focuses on two questions: 1.What is the current situation of English teachers' professional development in extracurricular training institutions? 2.Which factors affect the English teachers' professional development in extracurricular training institutions?In view of the two research questions,this study designed the questionnaire and interview based on the theories of teacher professional development and teacher career cycle,and used it as a research tool.By means of questionnaires and interviews,this paper investigated the current situation of English teachers' professional development in the extracurricular training institutions in Pingyao County,Shanxi Province,and then analyzed the personal and social factors affecting teachers' professional development.The study found that most English teachers believe that the current situation of professional development is in a state of distorted.There are many factors for this malformation.There are several aspects,such as imperfect and unreasonable teacher management system,high teaching pressure,difficulty in teaching and research work,and limited time for professional development.Based on the findings,this paper proposes the following countermeasures: broaden the strategies of professional development of English teachers,improve teachers' professional identity;improve the teacher management system of English teachers in counseling organizations,improve teachers' happiness and satisfaction;Correct the mentality and improve the level of all English teachers and creates a good atmosphere of public opinion.This paper still has some shortcomings in many aspects of research,but the author hopes to provide certain reference value in improving the professional development of English teachers by studying the professional development of English teachers in extracurricular training institutions.
