Misuse Of Cohesive Devices In Chinese To English Consecutive Interpretation And Solutions

Cohesion exists in any text,whether it's a speech,novel or a piece of news.If an interpreter how to use cohesive devices appropriately,the quality and accuracy of the his/her work will be improved.However,as Chinese and English vary greatly in grammatical structure and sentence patterns,there are also differences in cohesive devices between the two.Interpreters should choose cohesive devices that best suit the target language.Taking the mock conference of the Industrial Policy Debate as an example,this thesis discusses how to use cohesion devices in Chinese-English consecutive interpretation.Under the framework of the cohesion theory developed by Halliday and Hassan,the author first introduces the cohesive devices,and then identifies the cases of improper application.In each case,the author analyses the source language and the original version of translation,and then comes up with a revised version.The author summarizes the causes of misuse and finally,in the third chapter,discusses the coping strategies,which hopefully will shed some light on improving the performance of interpreting.
