A biography portrays a subject's life story in a cultural environment, the translation of which could contribute to a nation's cultural diffusion. However, its translation usually poses great difficulties for translators, who are required to make its implicit cultural, emotional and logical information explicit to readers. This thesis probes into some explicitation strategies of implicit information based on the translation of The Ninth Panchen Lama: A Biography.By analyzing examples from this book, the author summarizes some specific translation strategies: 1.conveying cultural connotations by finding similar expressions in English and explaining culture-loaded words;2.expressing emotions by using rhetorical devices and highlighting keywords;3.emphasizing logical relationships by organizing and supplementing information. The author hopes this paper can serve as a reference for the translation practice of biographies. |
