The Translation Of Implicit Information In Medical Text

This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of medical text named Cancer and the Environment: Gene-Environment Interaction,in which the relationship between cancer and environment has been introduced.Moreover,the source language is characterized by medical terminologies and complex sentences.Given that health is essential to human life,this report and translation practice do have certain practical significance.During translation,the main problem is the translation of implicit information,which can be manifested in vocabularies,phrases and sentences.For vocabularies and phrases,the translator chooses free translation and conversion.For sentences,the translator employs addition,conversion and explicitation,of which the conversion is mainly reflected in syntax and word order.In addition,the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization have been used during the whole translation practice.Through this translation practice,the translator has deepened the understanding of this book and related translation methods,hoping that these coping strategies can offer valuable information to translators in the same field.
