Now in the study of the philosophy of mind, some scholars emphasize the biological basis of cognition. They believe that consciousness is a biological phenomenon that appears in a living organism,so the study of mental problems cannot be separated from the researcher of brain and nervous system. This position makes us have to face the classic metaphysical problem of "mind-body problem" again. This problem is also a problem that cannot be solved in the study of philosophy of mind in contemporary. On the question of "what is the self",some researchers in contemporary philosophy of mind have reached a consensus that the self is a flowing feast.First of all, neuroscience's tentative exploration of the neural basis of consciousness is the basis for our exploration of the concept of self. But self-awareness cannot be dissipated as the mechanical activity of neuronal cells(where the representative theory is abolitionism),nor can the self as an entity like traditional philosophers(the representative theory is dualism). In response to this,Thompson carried out a new construction based on the original theory through a dialogue between Buddhism and neuroscience.Thompson discusses the true meaning of N?g?rjuna in M?lamadhyamakak?rik? through a comparative study of the angle of the first person present in Buddhism and the angle of objectification in the third person of science. The process of generation, realization, and disappearance. In this article,I will explore the answers to these two questions from Thompson's latest research: "How is the self as a life process generated? What is the value of the self under Thompson's self-view?"Contemporary research on self-problems is inseparable from consciousness.I will first extract his analysis of consciousness from Thompson's research and analyze it by classification to try to figure out what is self-awareness.Then cite Thompson's critique of Cartesian spiritual entities and neuronihilism to prove that the ego is neither an independent spiritual entity nor a purely physical entity. After that,I will explain that Thompson established a new self-view through the inheritance of the Dragon Tree doctrine and the concept of the origin of Buddhism. This view of the self holds that the ego is not an immutable entity. The ego is a life process that is constantly changing under the influence of various factors such as the environment and culture. In the last part,I will analyze the value of the self on the basis of the new self-concept constructed in the previous parts. This value also reflects the self-containedness and generativeness. At the same time, through the scientific experiments of meditation,we see the subjective initiative of life.In the process of meditation,we discover how we are self-aware,self-conscious,and realize self-control through meditation.
