Translation Study On Glazes Of Porcelain From The Perspective Of Terminology

Ceramics,the unique symbols of Chinese culture,are Chinese cultural treasures.In the current cultural going-out strategy,spreading cultures by the use of them are bound to achieve twice the result with half the effort.Translation is the way we have to go to make cultural symbols and cultural achievements go abroad.As a kind of translation of science and technology,ceramic translation involves the translation of many professional terms.And the translation of professional terms are usually both important and difficult in the science and technology translation.It can be said that only you can translate the ceramic terms well,can you do the ceramic translation well.There are two reasons that translation of ceramic terms is uneasy.Firstly,the ceramic terms are too professional to be understood;secondly,as the long history of the forming of these terms,the inner relationship between the terms is very complicated to make the translator very difficult to tell one term from the other.It is easy for translators to be put off by ceramic terms.However,there is one subject to which these two questions can be well answered,and that is terminology,a study of terms on the basic of linguistic.The emphasis of terminology theory on "concept" and "conceptual system" can help translators to "turn difficulty into ease" in the first problem and "complexity into simplicity" in the second problem.As a wonderful work in the history of ceramics,red glaze ware was especially favored by Kings and scholars of various dynasties,which is a very important part of ceramic terminology.Red glaze terms emerge one after another,these terms are not only very professional("signified " implies complex concepts),but also the relationship between terms is very complex.It can be said that the translation of red glaze words is very challenging.It can be said that the word system of red glaze is a typical representative of the terms of ceramics.It has the characteristics of both important and difficulty,which makes it one of the most important object in the translation of ceramic terms and glazed words.Based on the research results of terminology,this paper lists all the terms of red glaze by using the method of literature research.Through historical tracing,it clarifies the whole concept system of red glaze terms and the concept of single red glaze terms,and establishes a tree diagram of the concept system of red glaze terms.Then use exhaustive method to search the existing translation results of each sub-concept in the red glaze concept system as much as possible;then use comparative research method to compare the existing translation results,use terminology quality evaluation criteria,terminology naming principles,terminology classification and terminology determination strategy to evaluate the terms of each version,and at last,select or modify the existing translation results together with the created new ones toform a glossary of red glaze terms.
