| “Passive voice” is a common phenomenon in language,but the passive structure of English is quite different from that of Chinese,which makes it difficult to translate English into Chinese.In order to improve the quality and efficiency of the translation of passive structures in construction engineering contract,this paper,based on the self-built English-Chinese parallel corpus of Conditions of Contract for Construction,examines the translation of the English passive structure into Chinese in the construction contract text.The study finds that the English passive structure in the corpus has 7 main modes.In addition,this study conducts a retrieval analysis of the verbs in the passive structure.A total of 128 verbs appear in the passive structure of the bilingual corpus.The author divides these verbs into high-frequency verbs(25)and low-frequency verbs(103)with the frequency 5 as the limit.The analysis shows that the translation of some high-frequency verbs in the passive structures in Conditions of Contract for Construction is basically the same.Therefore,according to the form of the noun glossary,the author tries to make a verb glossary using these 25 verbs,which can be used as a semantic reference for the translation of passive structures in construction engineering contracts.This research is based on the retrieval data of this corpus,and the concept of the verb glossary is proposed according to the phenomenon that the translation method of high-frequency verbs is basically consistent.Although the accuracy of it needs to be further studied,but it is a new research direction to some extent,which plays an important role in improving the efficiency and quality of translation of passive structures.However,this study also has certain limitations.First,the research method needs to be further optimized.Secondly,the size of the corpus is comparatively small,and the experimental results need to be tested by a larger-scale professional corpus of construction contracts. |
