Jung and Chinese philosophy have a profound origin.Of all the western psychological schools, almost only Jung’s analytical psychology has brought the Book of Changes and Chinese culture into the theory and practice of psychology.Jung’s initial contact with the Book of Changes is from the translation of James Legge, and Jung believes that James Legge’s translation does not grasp the philosophical meaning of the Book of Changes. When Jung came into contact with the Book of Changes translated by Wilhelm,he confirmed the principle of synchronicity. The Book of Changes unifies the whole book from the perspective of heaven, earth and human talents, especially emphasizing the problem of man’s moral cultivation as a member of the universe;while synchronicity is based on the induction of the subject, crossing the space-time of the natural physical world, and emphasizing the importance of the subject.Based on the principle of synchronicity,Jung emphasized the importance of unconsciousness, especially the collective unconsciousness to consciousness. The principle of synchronicity is based on the unconscious side of human mind, which can be connected with the external image.Jung believes that to be a complete person,in addition to rational consciousness,it also needs irrational unconsciousness.Only the integration of the two can become a "Great man" in the Book of changes. In order to acquire knowledge from unconsciousness, people must go back to their hearts, put down the consciousness of excessive rational thinking, and make room for unconsciousness. This is like the theory of Yin and Yang in the philosophy of the Book of Changes. Both sides of Yin and Yang are changing. When the unconsciousness, especially the collective unconsciousness, appears,Jung thinks that it mainly appears as the content of the prototype, the prototype is the main content of the collective unconsciousness, and the prototype exists in everyone’s heart. If the concept of collective unconsciousness in Jung’s theory is equivalent to the "Tao" in the philosophy of the book of changes, then the prototype is the expression of collective unconsciousness,so the prototype theory shows the collective unconsciousness just as Yin and Yang show the Tao.The theory of Yin and Yang in the Book of Changes emphasizes that Yin and Yang are the common attributes of all things, and the prototype of the main content of collective unconsciousness also has the attributes of Yin and Yang.In addition to the fact that the prototypes and prototypes are opposite each other, the prototypes themselves have the properties of Yin and Yang.Among them,as a kind of nature of archetype, self nature has the attribute of unity of Yin and Yang and opposition.Carl Jung believes that this unity of opposites of self is a kind of Mandala like display, and it is the most complete and perfect state. The most important thing for a person is to realize his self nature, which is "the unity of man and nature" in the philosophy of Book of Changes.Jung believed that the "time in the book of changes" is an important way to realize self nature. It is an inevitable way to become a "Great man" who is in harmony with heaven and earth, four seasons, sun and moon, and ghosts and gods. Not only does the theory of image thinking,Yin and Yang, and middle time in Book of Changes philosophy agree with Jung’s synchronicity, archetype and other theories, but also it has different ways to cultivate morality.
