Ye Chu-Cang(1887-1946),his original name was Ye Zong-Yuan.He was from Wuxian,Suzhou.In the early years of the Republic of China,he was a famous writer named Ye Xiao-Feng,and a famous newspaper editor.His novels were as famous as those of Bao Tian-Xiao and Zhou Shou-Juan.He is the lead author of newspapers such as Pacific Daily News,Min Li News and The Republican Daily News.As a member of the South Society,he participated in the whole process of the South Society and participated in the establishment of the new South Society.Ye Chu-Cang deserves to be studied in literature and journalism.But until now,Ye Chu-Cang's works have not been comprehensively organized.The research on his novels is not sufficient.Based on a comprehensive grasp of the literature,this article analyzes Ye Chu-Cang's creative environment,the ideas reflected in the novel,the novel theory,and the changes in his novels.This article will try to put Ye Chu-Cang into history and show his response to social changes.From 1909 to 1926,Ye Chu-Cang worked in the newspaper office.He joined Shantou's China Daily in the late Qing Dynasty and came to Shanghai in the early Republic of China to become a member of Pacific Daily News,Min Li News,Life Daily and The Republican Daily News.He participated in the South Society and many other societies.He was a well-known screenwriter and is actively involved in education.Studying his track can help us understand the cultural activities of Shanghai in the early Republic of China.Ye Chu-Cang has written many different types of novels,which can be roughly divided into three categories:historical novels,social novels and romantic novels.He promoted national consciousness in many novels.Facing the bad situation after the revolution,he doubted the value of the revolution and wrote a lot of satire.Ye Chu-Cang was also an important novel theorist at the beginning of the Republic of China.He always insisted that literature should educate ordinary people.Taking the New Culture Movement as the boundary,Ye Chu-Cang's thoughts and novel creation can be divided into two periods.He emphasized ritual education in the early stage;he criticized ritual education in the later stage and focused on liberalism and affirmative action.In terms of his novel creation,he was influenced by Water Margin and The Scholars in the early stage,and later he paid attention to real life.However,he did not completely abandon traditional literature.At this time,he still wrote old-fashioned novels and advocated the sorting of national heritage.This thesis is divided into 4 chapters.The first chapter sorts out Ye Chu-Cang's activities in the press,the South Society and other cultural fields.The second chapter deals with the creative environment of Ye Chu-Cang's novels,and the theory of early novels.The third chapter analyzes his historical novels,social novels,and his romance novels.The forth chapter analyzes his novel theory and creation changes in the period of the new cultural movement.
