For urban publicity texts,wider application of MT is being realized today Compared with former human translation,its translation efficiency has been highly improved.However,it has disadvantage inevitably,such as its nonstandard accuracy and quality.Under this circumstance,post-editing becomes especially significant.This urban publicity text mainly introduces basic information of our country's historical cities,such as the overview,name origin,location,history,division of district,etc.In accordance with its functions and characters,the type of text should be classified into Informative Text with main function of conveying information and emphasis on facticity,accuracy and readability in Newmark's Text Type Theory.Under this theory,different type of text should take different translation strategy,and the strategy that Informative Text should adopt is Communicative Translation Theory,which emphasises objective conveyance of source information,target readers-orientation and effectiveness,thus meets the purpose of publicity text translation which is to convey China's politics,economy and culture to foreigners for their better understanding of China's status.Taking the MT errors made in words,syntax of urban publicity text as examples,this article puts forward relevant translation strategies for different errors according to Communicative Translation Theory.In the aspect of words,the error types are mainly the mistranslation of technical terms and context,omission and redundant translation.And the corresponding strategies adopted are verifying the translation of relevant terms,searching for the accurate meanings combined with context,adding elements and deleting elements.In the aspect of syntax,the main errors are basic errors in word order,tense and voice.The strategies adopted are literal translation,adverse translation,adjusting tense and voice.And these are all translation methods and strategies based on Communicative Translation Theory which requires accurate conveyance of original text information.The great recognition should be given to MT since it has improved the translation efficiency and quality to a large extent.For its shortages,it deserves improvement with combination with other subjects for a better future.This report could provide more relevant materials for the further improvement and update of MT in the publicity text translation in the future.Applying Communicative Translation Theory to MT error correction of the publicity text can reduce the errors in translation to a large extent and get better publicity effect.
