A Report On The Chinese Translation Of End The Insomnia Struggle From Catford's Translation Shift Theory

The original text of the report is the book End the Insomnia Struggle,which is co-authored by American clinical psychologist Colleen Ehrnstrom and Alisha L.Brosse This book puts forward cognitive behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy on insomnia,and puts forward specific practical operation guidance.This translation report is based on Translation Shifts Theory as well as the materials translated by the author--Chapter 8,9,10 and 11.It explores and discusses some translation examples and analyzes the guiding role of Translation Shift Theory in the translation of the text.The report consists of four parts:translation task description,theory introduction,translation case analysis and the summary of translation practice.First of all,the author introduces the background of this translation task.The purpose of this translation practice is to learn from foreign physical therapy insomnia rules,and provide practical treatment for the majority of insomnia patients.The second part introduces Translation Shifts Theory and analyzes its applicability to translation practice.The third part discusses the specific guidance of Translation Shift Theory in practical translation.This paper mainly analyzes the translation strategies from four aspects:word level(shifts of part of speech),sentence level(shifts of sentence pattern),class level(shifts of language unit)and thinking level(shifts of pragmatic expression).The last part is the summary of translation practice.This paper summarizes the shortcomings,improvement methods and future research prospects of this translation practice.The report adopts different translation methods from four aspects(word level,sentence level,class level,thinking level).When translating the original text into Chinese,the translator should give proper treatment to it.Through the writing of this report,the author has a deeper grasp of the guiding strategies of Translation Shift Theory in translation practice.A certain improvement of the author's theoretical literacy and translation practice ability have been witnessed.The practice report aims to provide some strategies and methods for the translation of informative text,expecting to provide guidance and reference for translators engaged in informative text translation.
