Curriculum reform can't be carried out with teachers,that is,there is no curriculum development without teacher development.After the implementation of the new curriculum reform,the importance of curriculum awareness has been greatly emphasized in terms of teaching objective,content,evaluation and educational implementation.And an English teacher's own level of curriculum awareness will directly influence students' development,teachers' personal growth and deepening of new curriculum reform.At present,studies on curriculum awareness of teachers in primary and secondary schools and vocational colleges are abundant,yet studies on curriculum awareness of high school English teachers are few.Considering this,the study conducts research on the curriculum awareness of 80 English teachers in four high schools in Huaibei City with questionnaires as its major inquiry,and interviews and classroom observation as its supplementary inquires.The sample group includes two private high schools and two public high schools in Huaibei City,the subjects of which are compared and contrasted from six aspects: grade to teach,age,academic degree,year of teaching,gender and school type.The research questions are as follows: What is the status quo of high school English teachers' curriculum awareness in Huaibei City? What factors influence high school English teachers' curriculum awareness in Huaibei City? How to effectively improve high school English teachers' curriculum awareness in Huaibei City?The major findings of this study are as follows: the curriculum awareness of public high school English teachers in Huaibei City is better than that of private high school English teachers;the curriculum awareness of male teachers is higher than that of female teachers;the curriculum awareness of English teachers with a bachelor's degree is higher than that of teachers with a master's degree or an associate degree;the biggest gap of curriculum awareness lies between teachers with 11-20 years of teaching group and those with less than one year teaching;teachers with more than 20 years of teaching score highest in average score of the questionnaires.Finally,recommendations are provided for teachers from four dimensions:reasonable judgment of curriculum objective and pertinent curriculum project should be made;new teaching concept should be applied and curriculum implementation capabilities should be strengthened;active integration with the local cultural environment should be bridged and multi-dimensional teaching resources should be developed;traditional evaluation concept of students should be discarded,and inner and outer self-cultivation should be undergone to evaluate students pertinently and sincerely.
